Sheet mulching (also called lasagne gardening) is composting in place — layers of cardboard, compost, manure and mulch stacked directly on the ground to smother weeds and build deep, fertile soil where you want to plant.
It's the fastest way to turn a patch of lawn, weeds or hardpan into a productive bed without digging.

Mow or knock down existing weeds and grass.
